River Watch students are involved in scientific research on creeks and rivers in their own community of Barnesville. Research activities are meaningful because it involves water, a vital substance for all life! These activities are important beyond the classroom because the data is used by Managers in the Buffalo-Red River Watershed District and in the Red River Basin. The students and teacher, sample critical sites along most creeks in the Barnesville area on a monthly basis during spring, summer and fall. When data is collected over time, changes in patterns become evident and then can indicate a need for further study.
